Arrival at Nawiliwili Kauai

Of all our ports of call in Hawaii, our arrival into the port of Hawiliwili Kauai was the most tranquil and gave a great feeling of being remote.  The scenery spread for miles in all directions and everytime you looked in a new direction it was like discovering a new world.  Nawiliwili is a fantastic port not to be missed.  If sailing into this location be sure to order room service so you don't miss a moment.

So now that we have tied up in port, our next stop is the fern grotto.  Stay tuned...

Honolulu - Pearl Harbor Welcome Center, Mighty Mo and USS Arizona

We did not intend to visit the USS Arizona Memorial, which was great considering the shuttle that day was discontinued due to weather.  As a result we did not encounter the diappointment many did.  I feel sorry for those who had hoped to make the treck.

We on the other hand are aviation buffs so our wish was to visit Hickem Field and the Aviation Museum.  We did however get the opportunity to tour the Pearl Harbor Wecome Center and walk by Might MO before visiting the museum.

This was a great day and there was nothing about Pearl Harbor that disappointed us.  The feeling of just standing on the piece of land and envisioning what had transpired was a moving feeling that will not soon be forgotten.

Next post we visit the Aviation Museum at Hickem Field Pearl Harbor.

Honolulu - Waikiki Beach

After all the photos I have seen, all the anticipation I have had and all the excitement that existed in getting to finally see Waikiki Beach, I must admit I was a little let down.

As with the Honolulu port in general, I found Waikiki Beach to be very industrialized and built up.  There didn't ever seem to be that feeling of being on a tropical island that was very apparent when we visited Richardson Beach near Hilo.

This is not to say this is not a beautiful beach, quite the contrary.  It just didn't have the Hawaiian Feel I thought I was going to experience.

Here are the photos I took.

After we finished a lovely lunch on the beach we split from the women and off we went to visit Pearl Harbor.
